The Ritz-Carlton Hotel served as the perfect backdrop for the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation’s 2nd annual Le Bal Rouge. Held on January 19, 2018, the gala took place in one of the most elegant settings in Montreal. The event honoured the achievements of Dr. Gerald Fried, Surgeon-in-Chief at the MUHC.
Under the leadership of Le Bal Rouge Co-Chairs Alain Bellemare, President and CEO of Bombardier and Marc Tellier, Partner at McKinsey & Company, more than $500,000 was raised during the evening, which was directed towards the MUHC Foundation’s Dr. Gerald M. Fried Chair in Surgical Innovation.
Dr. Fried has devoted his career to saving the lives of others and he is a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery and surgical innovation. A skilled surgeon and mentor, his impact has transcended North America and the globe. Dr. Fried has trained many leading Canadian surgeons, some from as far as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Italy, and Mexico, among others.
CJAD’s Leslie Roberts and TVA/LCN’s Brigitte Bédard served as the evening’s MCs. Guests were entertained by the talented live band 1945 and a dazzling flamenco performance. During the cocktail hour, an electronic harpist serenaded attendees encased in a picturesque life-sized winter snow globe.
Le Bal Rouge 2018 would not have been possible without contributions from our corporate sponsors and generous donors. Bombardier, a long-time MUHC Foundation supporter, and patron sponsor of the night alongside McKinsey & Company, was also recognized for its landmark $4 million donation to help fund the construction of the MUHC hospital at the Glen site.
