On August 25, 2016, more than 250 guests were treated to an exceptional evening at Montreal’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel as part of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation's first Le Bal Rouge. Raising more than $800,000, this fundraising gala was among the premier events of the summer, and was attended by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Gaétan Barrette, and Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace borough mayor Russell Copeman.
During the evening, the MUHC Foundation presented its first-ever MUHC Foundation Award of Excellence. This annual award is given to an individual or team that has pushed the boundaries of innovation and had a positive impact on the MUHC locally and internationally. The recipient was the MUHC’s Catheterization Laboratory team, which performs minimally invasive heart surgeries using catheters—long flexible tubes tipped with medical tools.
